Plant genetics aim to cut impact of lettuce diseases

Before the first crop-protection material is applied to lettuce, even before the first seeds are planted, a team of scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture facility in Salinas has spent years studying how crop genetics can help farmers manage major diseases.
