Letter to the editor: Water bond storage

Issue Date: August 26, 2015

Editor:

After reading the Aug. 5 article "Workshops look at water bond storage spending," I felt limp. It makes you feel helpless.

I voted in favor of the bond measure, trusting that there would soon be some relief for those in agriculture dealing with water issues. Modoc County voters were skeptical and failed to support it, but I was raised in Selma and my husband and I farmed in Laton, and the entire situation strikes close to home.

My heart aches for farmers and ranchers, big or small, who were hoping for solutions in their lifetime. The bureaucrats are expressing no urgency to develop more storage or to fully utilize the storage already in place by not allowing water to flow through the delta to "protect" the smelt.
