Study checks pest lure

A U.S. Department of Agriculture entomologist in California is helping farmers evaluate a new lure designed to monitor for infestations of navel orangeworms, the top pest of almonds and pistachios and a significant pest of walnuts. USDA said the work by Charles Burks, who is with the Agricultural Research Service in Parlier, could also help reduce insecticide use on the nut crops.
