Pruning options explored in avocado groves

When Steve Howerzyl first heard about high-density planting for avocados, it made a lot of sense to him. A fellow grower in San Diego County, Reuben Hofshi, had proposed the idea of 10 feet by 10 feet spacing in 1999, as a way to produce higher yield per acre and compete with lower-priced imports, and to make it easier and cheaper to harvest and apply agricultural chemicals.
