Growers hone irrigation, fertilizer use on leafy greens

Salinas Valley growers have enjoyed growing market opportunities with a variety of machine-harvested leafy vegetables, but these crops bring new challenges in efficient irrigation and fertilization because they have short roots and because of the amount of nitrogen they take up in their short seasons.
