Short-term plan would allow aqueduct to flow backward

Drought has prompted Kern County irrigation districts to take bold steps to move water to farmers who need it, by running a stretch of the California Aqueduct backward. County water experts say the unusual effort will help ensure Kern County farmers north of a regional water bank can get needed irrigation water this summer.
