USDA official samples farm-to-school fare
Anne Cannon MacMillan, senior advisor to U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, left, visited Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School in Davis in late August to sample locally grown produce offered to students through the Davis Farm to School program. The program, operated by the Davis Joint Unified School District, intends to connect students' food choices with personal health, community, farms and land. MacMillan observed first graders including Jasmin Lagunas Patino, upper right, choose a wide variety of locally grown produce from the school's salad bar as part of their lunchtime meals.
