Counties earn $54 million in payments from federal land

Federal funds typically used to help counties overcome loss of property tax revenue from federal lands will have an extra function this year, in helping with response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Department of the Interior said last week it will distribute $54 million to California counties through the Payment in Lieu of Taxes program.
