Methane digester turns dairy waste into energy

Back in 2008, when Lyle Schyler wanted to start an ethanol plant in Pixley, he had a problem. The local electric company couldn't provide him with enough energy to power his project. So Schyler, president of Calgren Renewable Fuels, had an idea. The idea was to transport cow manure from local dairies to a methane digester he wanted to build at his facility that would turn waste products into energy.
