Pilot plant starts processing sugar beets for ethanol

Sugar beet farmers on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, who in 2008 were without a place to sell their beets after the closure of a processing plant near Mendota, have switched on the power at a pilot plant where sugar beets will be converted into ethanol and other forms of energy.
