Researchers breed lettuce for resistance to leaf spot

U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers in Salinas have released to seed companies their second set of lettuce germplasm with resistance to bacterial leaf spot, which causes lesions on the leaves so unsightly they can make the crop unfit for market.
