Wood chips in ditches help remove nutrients from water

For the first time in 2012, researchers successfully removed nutrients from surface water on a Monterey County vegetable farm with a bioreactor, a simple technique that involves holding the water in a ditch lined with plastic and filled with wooden chips to supply carbon.
