Lawsuit challenges state’s new ‘fire prevention fee’

A class-action lawsuit filed last week in Sacramento seeks to overturn a new "fire prevention fee" instituted by the state Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association filed the suit in Sacramento County Superior Court seeking to overturn the charge, which it considers an illegal tax.
