Research aims to help pear farmers overcome labor woes

Earlier in her career, University of California Cooperative Extension farm advisor Rachel Elkins says, she spent most of her time studying pest management and disease control for pear growers in Lake and Mendocino counties. But as farmers have faced chronic challenges hiring enough harvest labor, she says, her priorities have taken "a complete reversal."
