Vegetable production levels stayed stable, USDA reports

California's overall 2011 fresh market vegetable production declined a scant 1 percent to 10.9 million tons, compared to the previous year, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In its annual summary, USDA said California continues to lead the nation in vegetable production, accounting for 44 percent of the acres harvested and capturing 50 percent of the value for the United States.
