Leading pear farmer Elliot dies at age 79

David J. Elliot Jr., a sixth-generation pear grower from Courtland, died June 26 at age 79. He was a descendant of David Osborn, who came to California from Nova Scotia during the Gold Rush and planted pear trees in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in 1860.
