Settlement and legislation address drinking water

A coalition of Salinas Valley farmers has agreed to provide replacement drinking water for residents of the valley whose groundwater supplies contain levels of nitrate that exceed federal standards. Meanwhile, a bill sponsored by the California Farm Bureau Federation would assist farmers and landowners who voluntarily provide alternative drinking water in similar circumstances.
